Aussenkehr is a farm and a settlement on the banks of the Orange River in the south of Namibia right on the border with South Africa. Aussenkehr falls within the Karasburg Constituency of the ǁKaras Region and is situated 24 kilometres (15 mi) downstream (northwest) of Noordoewer.[1] Aussenkehr was established as a farm in 1910 when an Imperial German investment corporation acquired the land and started several irrigation projects.[2] Over time, Aussenkehr has evolved into a large settlement accommodating workers employed nearby. Estimations of how many people live here vary between 7,000 and 30,000.

Many people working on this farm are from northern Namibia, especially around Rundu and Divundu. With home over 2,000 kilometers away, the farm has become home for them too.

The pastoral and women’s groups in Aussenkher began after church leaders from the north shared how hard it was to attend training in Divundu — the distance, accommodation, and fees were too much.

So we helped them start local groups here instead. We thank God for the opportunity to establish both a pastoral leadership group and a women’s leadership group in Aussenkher.
